HP Made A Gaming Laptop They Promise Won’t Sound Like A Jet Engine While You Game

Hey, are you sick of your gaming laptop sounding like a superweapon about to fire? Then you might be The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind villain Dagoth Ur.

The overwhelming sound of a gaming laptop is a common criticism against it. Think back to your uni days when someone would bring in their hulking supercomputer and drown out the lecturer with its fans that would make a jet engine blush. All while just running 20 Google Chrome tabs.

And the size, oh buddy don’t get me started on bringing a hulking meteorite of RGB lighting to a class every day.

But HP are convinced they’ve made such a computer that you can take around with you, without imposing a threatening aura on those around you.

That’s right, the new HP Omen Transcend 14 is a slick and stylish gaming laptop that would fool anyone into doubting that it’s actually a gaming laptop. It’s not bulky, it’s got a clean design, it’s compact. But the specs on this thing rival some higher-end gaming laptops out there already.

The specs

With this laptop, you get up to an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Laptop GPU, which will set you up to play heaps of modern releases comfortably on Medium-High settings.

The laptop also features up to the Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 185H2. Intel’s new Ultra Processor chip has been making the rounds lately, as it’s featured in many of HP’s AI-powered laptops. These new processors have been said to offer a 25 per cent reduction in power consumption and improve multi-threading performance compared to competing laptop processors. To cut down the jargon, computer life lasts longer, and software runs faster and more stable.

These CPUs also come with a neural processing unit (NPU), which offers low-power AI acceleration for CPU/GPU offloading. This helps the computer perform AI-powered tasks like background blurring, eye tracking and picture framing smoothly. So even if you’re not keen on using it for anything related to AI content generation, it should still improve your gaming performance or even your stream if you want to take it on the go for that.

What’s also worth mentioning with this laptop is that it comes with a 2.8k 120hz HDR OLED display with 100% DCI-P3, which is always great to see.

There aren’t enough gaming laptops out there with OLED displays, so visuals tend to take a hit, which can make that beefy graphics card a little redundant if you don’t have a great display to match.

The Omen Transcend 14 also comes stacked with storage, offering up to 2 TB to load up games on. Most gaming laptops usually only reach around 500 GB to a TB of storage, but with game sizes exploding to over 100 GB, it’s good to future-proof and load up on as much storage as you can.

With all this neat tech though, it’s important to consider how hot this laptop is going to run while you’re driving around Night City in Cyberpunk 2077. The laptop comes with OMEN Tempest Cooling GO, software that lets you control your laptop’s fans and monitor how hot the computer is running. The software also detects if the laptop is entering a “danger zone” level of heat, and smartly accommodates power to cool the computer without you needing to rest it on a bag of frozen peas.

Design

We’re all familiar with the classic gaming laptop design. The HP Omen Transcend 14 looks entirely opposite to this coming in a black or white variant, accented with RGB lighting, but it’s also compact and looks closer to a regular notebook laptop design. Which is all the more impressive considering the hardware it’s packing.

The only way you can really tell that this is a gaming laptop is its 4-zone HyperX translucent RGB keyboard. In fact, the only RGB lighting on this laptop comes from the under glow of the keyboard, shining from the keys and spilling over the laptop. For the keyboard itself, it’s a comfortable one-flat panel, which helps with that lighting effect and keeps the computer light and slim.

Summary

With all these features, it’s looking like the HP Omen Transcend 14 is a safe future-proof bet to comfortably play new games as they come out. Even better, you’ll be able to have it flex as a regular notebook to handle your everyday tasks.
